I’m Cheval Bryant, a special education leader with more than three decades of experience leading special education schools and programs.

I founded Special Education Leadership Partners because of the countless and often heartbreaking stories of families who spent years searching for a school that truly understands their child. They watched their child lose confidence in environments that weren’t designed for the way they learn, and they carried the frustration and worry that came with it.

Then they found The School, and everything changed for their child and for the entire family.

I don’t think we talk enough about how much these schools matter, or about what happens when poor governance, leadership instability, or mission drift puts one at risk.

A school’s ability to serve students tomorrow depends on the decisions its leaders and board make today. A board that doesn’t understand the difference between governance and operations can destabilize leadership. And when a specialized school or program becomes unstable or closes, the consequences reach far beyond the organization. Families lose a place they fought to find, and students lose a community where they finally learned they belong.

 When we lose a school or program designed to help students with disabilities reach their potential, we lose part of the infrastructure that builds a more inclusive society.

That’s why I created Special Education Leadership Partners: to help strengthen the boards and leaders responsible for protecting these schools and carrying their missions forward.

I created SELP because I want The School to be present and in good health for many years to come.
